Late burn

There’s that colorless part of night in the countryside where the sun goes away and the lights don’t take over, because there aren’t any. It’s kind of depressing, because you know when you get where you’re going the day is already done. It lasts only 20 minutes or so, but it’s kind of unsettling, even with other cars cruising along the interstate at 75 mph. I always get that feeling of the inability to relax despite the day melting away entirely. Every mile covered makes the destination somehow slide further off the horizon. In the Deep South pine trees obscure the way. On this night the sky went totally flat, acting like a curtain.

Gray for a day

I returned to a favorite old spot to produce today’s photo. There was actually a ton of color in this, but I waited for it to wash away after the sunrise and then ventured over to this spot. In post process I took the rest out. I like an emotionless landscape from time to time. Flat. Plain Jane and blank. There are days where you feel disconnected from place, where you are moving through and not really part of what’s happening. Washed out and colorless. Just for a day.

Near the photo shop

There’s this photo shop I’ve recently visited a few times for equipment needs. Last time I was in, the traffic was so miserable heading home that I stopped for a few minutes and took photos hoping the tollway would clear up a bit. It wasn’t a whole lot better, but I found a decent view of the city. The store is on this mostly-industrial island located in the Chicago River’s north branch. It’s the only island on the river, and you can’t tell you’ve got water surrounding you due to all the warehouses.
